It is a question that many of us have before coming to Switzerland, and that several of my acquaintances have asked me.
In my personal case, I did not have a car, since I had sold it before starting this project.
In my case I found myself in the position of having to look for other options, since my job is in construction on a temporary basis, I change a lot of places I have to go. Therefore, out of convenience and necessity, I urgently needed to find a solution so that I would not be taking trains and buses all the time.
The option of trains and buses is fine for someone who works permanently, does not have a license, or their economic situation does not allow it at first. The good thing about Switzerland is that it has very good connections and you can reach most of the places without any difficulty. The cost per journey will depend on its duration, but there are several types of bonuses that you can access to make it more profitable, I will discuss this in another post.
Since buying a car was not an option, since I have a L (Temporary) permit, the car sales houses do not accept you to pay in installments with that type of permit (you must have at least the B permit and a permanent employment contract ) and I also didn't have money to buy a car in cash, in the end I found a place where I could rent cars per month for 390CH, with an entry deposit of 300CH.
They are second-hand cars, which include traffic insurance in the price and have no mileage limit. Although the insurance only covers movement through Switzerland.

If you are interested in renting a car, let me know in the comments and I will contact you.
For anyone who has the option of bringing their car, Swiss laws allow you to stay for a maximum of 12 months from the moment you enter the country. Then you must change the registration or take it back to your country.
The costs will depend on the canton you go to and the condition of the car.
This is a very good option if you have a car, since you will have a way to get around and you will save the costs of renting a car or having to get around on trains and buses, losing more time traveling.
Once the twelve months have passed, you will be able to see what is more worthwhile for you, whether to enroll in Switzerland or see other options, it is a very good option to save time and see how things go in Switzerland.
For more information, let me know in the comments, and I will be happy to answer your questions.
